KANES (Knowledge Angel Network Equity Scheme)

Briefly the concept is based on building a team around an inventor/entrepreneur and rewarding them by means of equity rather than cash. The team then set targets to be achieved such as obtaining KANES first stage funding, first customer etc. It meets the gap in many business plans – viz. incomplete team and/or funds to complete the team. Although funding is very often felt to be the first barrier in fact a complete team is more important – and the right team has a better chance to obtain funding.

The KANES programme is being run by a Sister “for profit” company – Kingston Innovation Centre Ltd (KIC). The business can utilise the Incubation Faculty of KIC – physical or virtual but this is not a requirement.
